Very often, the answer lies not in color or composition, but in how the artist controls edges.
Hard, soft and lost edges are one of the fundamental tools of painting. They create form, atmosphere, depth and guide the viewer’s eye to the most important parts of the artwork.
These principles apply equally to watercolor, oil painting, pastel and drawing. The medium changes, but the visual principles remain the same.

💬 In the next posts, we’ll move on to practice and explore how to create each type of edge specifically in watercolor.
